You’ve got the ring, you’ve picked a date — and now you’re probably wondering: When should I book my wedding photographer?
This is one of the most common questions I get from couples, and the short answer is: as soon as you’ve booked your venue and set your date!
But don’t worry — let me walk you through exactly why timing matters, what to expect when booking, and how to make sure you get the photographer you really want.
Why Booking Early Matters
Wedding photographers often book 12–18 months in advance, especially for popular dates in spring and fall here in Huntsville. Saturdays in October, for example, are usually the first to go.
According to The Knot’s wedding planning timeline, photography is one of the first vendors you should secure.
If you wait too long, you might find your top choices are already booked — and I don’t want that for you!
That’s why I recommend reaching out to photographers as soon as you know your wedding date and venue. Even if you’re still figuring out the details, securing your photographer early gives you peace of mind and helps you plan the rest of your vendor team around your photography needs.
When to Book Your Wedding Photographer: How Far Out?
Here’s a good rule of thumb:
✨ 12–18 months in advance for peak wedding season (spring/fall)
✨ 9–12 months for off-season or weekday weddings
✨ 6–9 months if your date is flexible and not on a Saturday
For destination weddings or highly sought-after photographers (hi 👋), even earlier is better.
Can You Book Me Last-Minute?
Sometimes, yes — but it depends on availability. If your wedding is coming up soon and you still don’t have a photographer, don’t panic. Reach out! I’ll always do my best to fit you in or recommend someone I trust if I’m already booked.
Why It’s Worth Booking Early
Booking early isn’t just about securing your date. It also gives us plenty of time to:
💍 Plan your engagement session
📋 Build your wedding day timeline
📸 Talk through your must-have shots and style preferences
🖤 Get to know each other before the big day
The earlier we can start working together, the better prepared you’ll feel — and the better your photos will reflect your story.
