There’s something so special about getting to know my couples before their big day, and Mary Katherine and Michael’s engagement session at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens was just the perfect way to do that. These two are tying the knot at The Sonnet House this June, and spending time with them made me even more excited to see them as bride and groom!

We met up just before Christmas, and let me tell you—it was cold. But you’d never know it looking at these two. They were all smiles, laughing together, wrapped up in each other, and completely unfazed by the chilly air. The Botanical Gardens gave us so many dreamy spots to work with—lush greenery, elegant stone staircases, and golden winter light peeking through the trees.

Spending time with Mary Katherine and Michael felt like catching up with old friends. They have this ease about them—the kind of love that feels effortless and full of joy. Michael knows exactly how to make Mary Katherine smile, and she brings out this soft, sweet side of him. Watching them interact, joke around, and share little moments made capturing their love so natural.

Okay, can we talk about their outfits for a second? Mary Katherine looked stunning in a black off-the-shoulder top and flowy white skirt—such a classic and timeless choice. And Michael? He kept it sharp yet relaxed with a light blazer over a blue button-down. They looked amazing together, and their style blended so effortlessly with the garden’s natural beauty.

As their June wedding at The Sonnet House gets closer, I can already picture how incredible they’re going to look as bride and groom. If this session was any indication, their wedding day is going to be full of laughter, sweet moments, and so much love. I’m counting down the days with them!

From the very first conversation, we knew Perry was the photographer we wanted to trust with our wedding at the Space & Rocket Center.
